Rory Dusoir

Head gardener, designer and writer; chronicler of the Oudolf Gardens at Hauser & Wirth Somerset.

R ory Dusoir read Classics at Balliol College, Oxford, and decided during his undergraduate years that horticulture would suit him better. He worked at Great Dixter as assistant head gardener under Fergus Garrett before completing the Kew Diploma, and has since held head gardener posts at Howe Mill on the River Kennet in Wiltshire and at Stud House, a private estate within the grounds of Hampton Court Palace.

He writes on horticulture for the Daily Telegraph, RHS Garden and Gardens Illustrated, and in 2016 founded the design practice Kennedy Song Dusoir with two fellow Kew graduates. He teaches at West Dean College and works from London.

His book Planting the Oudolf Gardens at Hauser & Wirth Somerset is the closest thing in print to a working manual for one of Piet Oudolf's most-visited public plantings — a plant-by-plant account of how the scheme was built and how it has been kept, with photography by Jason Ingram across all four seasons.
