Garden Books & Horticulture Est. 2015 An Independent Press

Olivier Filippi's essential handbook for gardening with drought — plant selection, soil, techniques and Mediterranean design for a warming climate.

The Dry Gardening Handbook

Plants and Practices for a Changing Climate
About the book

In this classic work on gardening in dry climates, first published in 2008, Olivier Filippi offers practical advice for making gardens that can withstand summer drought without irrigation. The book examines the behaviour of plants in drought conditions, recommends horticultural techniques and describes over 500 rewarding plants, each classified by a unique drought resistance code. The Dry Gardening Handbook reduces the tyranny of the hose, solves problems and paves the way for a new style of gardening.

Olivier Filippi

Olivier Filippi and his wife Clara run Pépinière Filippi on a windswept site overlooking the lagoons of the Étang du Thau, near Mèze in the south of France. Their nursery — established in the 1980s and built into a reference for Mediterranean horticulture — now holds a collection of some fifteen hundred species and varieties, and propagates around two hundred thousand plants a year for designers and gardeners working with drought.
